When the Starz science fiction series “Outlander” returns next year it will add a new and regal character to its time traveling mix.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, French actor Lionel Lingelser has been cast to play King Louis XV. The historical 18th century figure should provide a nice ripple of uncertainty to the episodic maelstrom of the series, as this king of France is known for his love of women as well as his fickle interests.

The young actor who will play the legendary king will soon star alongside Gérard Depardieu in Jean Emmanuel Godart’s forthcoming film “Big House.” His role in “Outlander” will be a recurring one.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will encounter the tempestuous king after they go to France to escape the wrath of Black Jack Randall. Their plan will be to ingratiate themselves into the French court and thereby alter some timlines.

Due to the heavy reliance on its source material, the "Outlander" series has garnered some comparisons with the HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones,” a show that is at the mercy of the books being produced by author George R.R. Martin.

“Outlander” author Diana Gabaldon has some big plans for her literary output right now but cannot make any promises to fans.

“I am writing nine now, but I am not that far into it yet. It was a busy year so it has been harder to write,” she told Vulture. “Normally it takes me about three years to write one of the big books.”

Gabaldon admits to getting a lot of pressure from publishers and agents to write fast but says, whatever the demands are, the books will come when they come.

“I can’t write to order, so there are zero guarantees here, and it also depends on how many distracting things I have to do in between. I am aiming for 2017.”
