In the past weeks, rumors that Sting will finally be in action at the upcoming WWE SummerSlam event this August have excited fans. However, a recent report has contradicted this idea and said that while the veteran wrestler will grace the event, he will not have a scheduled match.

The 56-year-old wrestler has been in the sidelines for the past months and it wasn't because of any injury. He was last seen in action in California at Wrestlemania 31 where he lost his match against Triple H of The Authority.

Since then, fans of the wrestler have been waiting for when they can see him inside the ring once again.

That was all supposed to change as it was previously speculated that WWE planned Sting to team up with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to go against the Wyatt Family trio composed of Luke Harper, Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan in SummerSlam, noted What Culture.

But that plan seemed to have changed with Rowan out because of biceps injury, reported PW Insider. Although there are possible replacements in the form of Adam Rose or Bo Dallas, it might still not be enough to push through with the fight.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that Sting might be back in the ring with actor Stephen Amell to take down The Miz and Stardust. Wrestling Inc. noted that the speculation stems from the whispers that both the veteran wrestler and the "Arrow" star are "vigilantes" trying to stir a fight against the two wrestlers.

No reasons have been given as to why the wrestler was suddenly removed from the event, if he ever was part of the SummerSlam line up to begin with. Reports have said that the 56-year-old is in good shape and ready to appear in a match again.

However, it could also be that WWE feels the time is not enough to set up a feud between Sting and whoever he is set to fight in time for the pay-per-view event.

WWE nor Sting has issued a statement on these rumors.

The veteran wrestler will still be in Brooklyn for the weekend of the SummerSlam event. He is part of a special signing meet and greet segment with Shawn Michaels even if he is said to be not part of the matches.

WWE's pay-per-view event, SummerSlam 2015, will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on August 23.
