The movie that swept horrified audiences in 2013, "The Conjuring," has officially started pre-production on the sequel film set in the U.K., according to director James Wan.

Wan sent out a tweet on Tuesday confirming the project is underway. The tweet featured a black and white picture of the new film's artwork among other set photos: "Here we GO. First day of official pre-production on ‪#Conjuring2. After a much needed break, its good to b back at work."

Wan had previously directed the smash hit sequel "Furious 7" released this summer and grossed over $1.5 billion at the box-office.

The first film in the horror franchise, "The Conjuring," was also a surprise breakthrough success, drawing in $318 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.

The reason the success came as such a surprise is because the film was rated R, which don't usually garner great  box-office numbers, especially given it was rated R because of sheer terror.

Fans of the film have also swarmed to other Wan films, including "Saw," "Insidious" and "Insidious 2." The director has established a following in the horror genre, and now, the followup to his second biggest grossing film is sure to get a massive response.

"The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist" picks up the encounters of the real-life experiences of the Warrens, the famed couple who investigated famous cases like the Lutz's in Amityville and the Perron's who were the subject of the first film.

The end of "The Conjuring" had teased the next film would be about the Amityville case, but this film skipped over that and went to Enfield for a case that involves two sisters who become possessed by a poltergeist.
