The producers of "The View" may have snagged former co-host Sherri Shepherd to be a lead contributor on the show next season, but they had no luck in getting Joy Behar to return.

In an interview with WBAZ's Walker Vreeland on Wednesday, the 72-year-old comedian said she rejected an offer return to the ABC talk show.

Behar left the popular daytime series in 2013 after being a host for 16 seasons. She then appeared on the show as a guest co-host in 2014 and 2015. During the interview, the actress said that she was approached about returning, likely as a contributor. However, she it turned it down because they "couldn't make a deal."

Behar explained that they butted heads when it came to negotiating.

"If they were giving me a bigger role on the show, and giving me some power to actually make some changes and let them benefit from my expertise after being there for 16 years ... but they're not going to do that, so why would I want to bang my head against the wall?"

Behar also said her exit from the show "was a fairly mutual decision."

"I'm not always sure why that happened, but I was ready to go," she said. "I had had enough. I think that somebody -- I can't mention names -- made the decision to change the show for some reason. So Elizabeth Hasselbeck and I both had to leave. There was a decision made at some level -- I really am not at liberty to say who or why because I don't know 100 percent the truth of that."

Regardless of Behar's feelings, ABC admitted that it hopes that the comedian will change her mind.

"We love Joy and we hope she will be back on the show as a guest or a guest co-host in the future," a rep for the network told People.

Earlier this month, it was reported "Full House" alum Candace Cameron-Bure and "Good Morning America" anchor Paula Faris are also expected to join the hit talk show series next season. The two women would replace outgoing hosts Wallace and Perez, reports The New York Daily News. They would also join original host Whoopi Goldberg and newcomers Raven Symoné and comedian Michelle Collins at the "Hot Topics" panel.
