After months of not getting a contract extension, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson finally gets one.

NFL reports that the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Wilson agrees to a 4-year $87.6 million extension. The deal includes a $31 million signing bonus and $60 million in guaranteed money. Wilson tweeted out the news:

Earlier in the offseason, Wilson stated that he will not discuss or sign a contract extension after training camp starts. The Seahawks started training camp early this morning.

ESPN reports that Wilson will make $21.9 million per season. Reigning NFL MVP and Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers makes $22 million annually, which makes him the highest paid player in the NFL. Wilson was set to make $1.54 million in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. If an extension wasn't signed then Wilson would be tagged as a franchise player next February.

During his time in Seattle, Wilson lead the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos and losing Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots.

Many executives in the NFL thought that the Seahawks wouldn't have the money to pay Wilson but now he is the second highest paid player in the NFL. Wilson has been the master of come-from-behind wins, tallying 15 comebacks in his career, none bigger than last year's NFC Championship game when he led the Seahawks to victory after trailing 16-0 at halftime against the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawks won that game in dramatic fashion.
