Fans of the 'Killer Instinct' title worried about future game developments and sequels after Amazon announced acquisition of the title's game developer, Double Helix. However, Microsoft assures Killer Instinct fans that there is no need to fret.

"Our internal Killer Instinct team is still here and franchise is in good hands. We had a plan in place for this transition," Microsoft Studios executive Phil Spencer said on Twitter.

In a statement with Polygon, the Xbox-maker also revealed that it is working with another developer for the future of the franchise.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor," a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. "We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We're excited about the future of this popular franchise."

Tech Crunch reports that Amazon's acquisition of Double Helix was "for both talent and IP. Financial terms have not been disclosed," Tech Crunch adds.

Game Spot notes that with Amazon now taking hold of Double Helix, the game studio's 75-strong team will be regarded as Amazon employees but will still be working from Orange County.

Double Helix Games started in 2007 as a product of the Collective, Inc. and Shiny Entertainment merge, says Tech Crunch. Apart from Killer Instinct, the game studio is also home to other hit games like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Green Latern: Rise of the Manhunters, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Front Mission Evolved, among others.

Double Helix was also confirmed to be working on a new Strider game for Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles as early as last year, says Game Spot in another report. The new Strider game, according to Game Spot, will be "brand new and nonlinear with a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night-style structure."
