Former "Heroes" star Ali Larter has been confirmed to return to "Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter." She will reprise her role as Claire Redfield who was last seen in "Resident Evil: Extinction" and "Resident Evil: Afterlife."

Deadline first reported the news on Larter's return to the movie.

Prior to the movie, Larter has been busy with the drama series from TNT, "Legends," along with Sean Bean. The show is up for a second season premiere in September, reported Screen Rant.

The sixth and final movie in the series will continue the events of "Resident Evil: Retribution" that came out in 2012. Project Alice races against time to stop the evil Red Queen from her plans of completely eradicating the final remaining humans on earth.

The 39-year-old will join Milla Jovovich and Wentworth Miller in the upcoming movie, noted Coming Soon. Jovovich played the lead role, Alice, in all of the "Resident Evil" films that came out and will return to play the character once more.

Miller on the other hand, plays the role of Chris Redfield, the brother of Claire.

Bingbing Li is also expected to return to the movie for the role of Ada Wong.

Paul W.S. Anderson will return to direct the movie. He sat in the directorial chair for the last two films in the franchise as well as the first film that came out in 2002. Anderson also wrote the screenplay for all six movies in the film adaptation of the popular video game.

The movie was initially slated for a September 2014 release date. But According to Cinema Blend, it was delayed because Anderson was still trying to finish the second draft of the script in June of that year.

In August 2014, production of the film experienced another delay as Jovovich found out that she and husband Anderson, are expecting their second child. The actress made the announcement on her social networking page on Facebook.

Finally, filming of the movie is about to start late this month with location set on Cape Town, South Africa, although other places will be explored for the final chapter of the franchise.

Anderson, along with Jeremy Bolt from Impact Pictures, Samuel Hadida from Davis Films and Robert Kulzer from Constantin Film are producing the movie. Martin Moszkowicz, who has executive produced the last two "Resident Evil" movies, will return on the same capacity as well.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is set to hit theaters in 2016.
