While HTC has been hard at work to keep its users informed on its rollout of the Android 4.4 update, Samsung has been quiet on its plans. They have provided a statement to the tech news website CNet UK in which the company states they will be forthcoming with their plans for Android 4.4 "In due course".

The company, in the past, has revealed update schedules then been the victim of missing their own self-created deadlines. With this in mind, it is not surprising for them to be more "mum" on the subject then they have been in the past.

Though the company has not officially come out with a statement, the French carrier SFR stated in a blog posting on their site that an upgrade to Android 4.4 should be arriving for the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 toward the end of January or early February of this year. While this post only covered devices on the SFR cellular network, if those updates do arrive sooner rather than later then it would not be a surprise to see them rolled out worldwide at about the same time.

There have been hints that Samsung is sending out the Android 4.4 update on its newer hardware. Galaxy Note 3 users from Poland have begun seeing said update as far back as Jan. 13 while Korean Galaxy S4 owners started stating that the update rolled out for them on Feb. 5 on the LTE-A phone.

Both of these rollouts might just be an initial soak test of the update from Samsung done to make sure no unknown bugs pop up. But it could also be a sign of imminent rollout for the devices on a broader level. As of now Samsung has been quiet about these random updates to their devices and that should not be expected to change until the company is ready for the update to be given to carriers for them to push to devices.
