Disney’s big D23 expo undeniably landed with a ton of new “Star Wars” news. A lot was made of the first cast image of “Rouge One,” as well as the upcoming Star Wars theme park in Disney Land. However, "Episodes VII" and "IX" were the big headliners with some small details.

On the Episode IX front, the world learned what it already knew: Colin Trevorrow will direct the final film of the new trilogy. It is certainly a huge step for the filmmaker who is coming off the stunning success that was “Jurassic World.” “Episode IX” will be the fourth feature film directed by Trevorrow, who got off to a huge start when his first indie feature “Safety Not Guaranteed” was a major success. Trevorrow had directed a short, a documentary and a TV movie prior to "Safety," making his ascension all the more surprising.

What will make his arrival interesting is that his recent "Jurassic World" film featured a plethora of CGI creations, some critics noting that it was bloated. In the “Star Wars” universe, one man was accused of the same thing between 1999 and 2005. His name was George Lucas. It will be interesting to see how styles change throughout the three films as Rian Johnson is set for "Episode VIII." This choice harkens back to the original trilogy, which featured three different directors across the three films; the prequel movies were all directed by George Lucas.

On the “Episode VII: The Force Awakens” front, the big news was the D23 exclusive poster by Star Wars vet Strew Struzan. The poster, which is a far cry from anything Struzan has done for the previous Star Wars movies, shows Han Solo on the lower left hand with what looks to be the main trio of the new franchise at the top. Rey stands in the middle, Finn is on the left, and Kylo Ren in on the right. Finn and Kylo Ren seemingly represent the opposing sides of the force, light and dark, with each holding contrasting lightsabers. Rey is shown in the middle, holding a staff, suggesting that she might be forced to straddle both sides. Of course, it might just be the design, but Rey’s position certainly brings up a lot of questions.

Finn holding Luke’s lightsaber, which was also formerly Anakin’s, is also quite interesting, as it suggests that he might be the one to continue the Skywalker legacy. Many expected Rey to be the one to do that, but her lack of a lightsaber hints at her not being a force-user in the new movie. It obviously adds an interesting twist to what has come in the previous movies, perhaps indicating that the new trilogy is veering away from precedents set in other movies.

It could also be a ruse, with Finn holding the lightsaber at some point in the movie before it gets handed over to Rey, who apparently is the one taking hold of it in the recent trailer.

One fun tidbit: Notice the difference between the two lightsabers on the poster. Kylo Ren’s red blade is jagged and uneven while the blue light from Finn's - and Luke and Anakin’s - blade is pure and straight. It might be the most symbolic rendering yet of the two opposing sides of the force in the lightsabers themselves.

One final note: This is the third Struzan poster to feature two lightsabers. However, this is the first one that does not have the sabers locked in combat; the other two posters for "Episodes III" and "VI" show two battles raging in the centers of the frames.
