One of the biggest pieces of news to come out of D23 was the unveiling of the concepts and some cast members for Marvel’s hotly anticipated “Dr. Strange.”

The first film based on the superhero will be among the first to usher in the third phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe. At D23, Disney revealed concept art for the eponymous character wearing a “red cloak and a more traditional outfit, but with muted colors. Another bit of concept art showed him in an outfit similar to a trench coat,” according to IGN.

There was also concept art for Baron Mordo in more muted tones, mainly grays and blacks.

Additionally it was revealed that Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor would be joining the cast. Swinton is expected to play the Ancient One, the character responsible for teaching Dr. Strange the mystic arts. Swinton however stated that she was unsure about playing the character as a man or woman.

“She will soon start shooting a Marvel blockbuster, Doctor Strange, but there is a Swinton-esque twist – she doesn’t yet know if she will play the part as a man or a woman,” wrote The Guardian regarding Swinton’s approach to the character.

Swinton has played male characters onscreen before. She took on the role of the angel Gabriel in “Constantine” starring Keanu Reeves.

Ejiofor is playing Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo, Dr. Strange’s nemesis.

The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role of Stephen Strange. The plot is expected to follow the origin story from the comic books and will begin filming later this year.

There has been no news on where Dr. Strange would fit into the rest of the Marvel Universe and what his role will be in the Avengers.

“Dr. Strange” is slated for a November 2016 release.
