The Arizona Cardinals have a new running back in Chris Johnson who just signed with the team.

According to Bleacher Report, the Cardinals and running back Chris Johnson agreed to a one-year $870,000 deal. Johnson, who played for the Jets last season, ran for a career low 663 yards with one touchdown. After he was cut by the Jets, Johnson explained why he felt betrayed by the team.

"Basically, it was a situation where I was going there to be the guy or whatever," he said. "It was still said, yeah, both guys Johnson and Ivory were going to get playing time. I think it was like after the third game or something like that, it just switched over and I started getting less and less playing time, and not knowing where it came from."

According to ESPN, the reason that the Cardinals signed Johnson is because of the injuries to star running back Andre Ellington and the other two running backs on the depth chart.

Earlier this year, Johnson was arrested in Orlando, Florida for openly carrying a weapon. In March, Johnson was shot in the right shoulder during a drive by shooting that left his friend dead.

In his seven-year career, Johnson accumulated 8,628 yards with 51 touchdowns. In 2009, he ran for a career high 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has been a prolific receiver out of the backfield, topping 40 catches in a season five times, although that number dropped to a career low 24 last season. He would be a dangerous weapon for Bruce Arians and the offense.

Johnson is expected to be the backup to Ellington. The Cardinals made the playoffs last season finishing at 11-5. They were eliminated in the wild card round by the Carolina Panthers.
