Dallas County will be receiving a million condoms in observance of International Condom Day and in time for Valentine's Day.

International Condom Day, an informal annual celebration of "safer sex" is held every February 13, just before Valentine's Day. The team behind the annual pre-hearts day condom give-away activity and safe sex awareness campaign is AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF).

According to AHF, this year's theme is 'Love is the Best Protection,' with Love referring to Love-branded condoms that will be distributed in several cities in the US and in over 28 countries around the world.

"People have shown a great eagerness to participate in fun events that normalize condom use, and the fact that we're connecting safer sex practices with the greatest motivator of all - love - only makes this year's observances more powerful," AHF President Michael Weinstein said.

More than 6 million Love condoms will be donated to Public Health Departments including Dallas, which is set to receive a million condoms, reports Dallas News.

"Condoms have long proven to be among the most effective and reliable methods of preventing the spread of HIV and STDs, and all sexually active individuals should have the opportunity to access condoms for free or at very low cost," Texas Regional Director for AHF Bret Camp told Dallas News.

The Dallas Love condoms will reportedly be distributed in zip codes with high HIV and STD cases, Dallas News quotes Zachary Thompson, county health director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services.

"We know unprotected sex contributes to the high rate of HIV and AIDS in the U.S. and in Dallas County and it is important that we provide access to residents so they can have safe sex," Thompson told Dallas News.

Free Love condom distribution activity will also take place in Florida, Los Angeles, New York City, Atlanta, Memphis and many others. To see the full schedule of International Condom Day, click HERE.

This year's informal annual celebration will conclude "at the annual Great San Francisco Pillow Fight hosted every February 14 at the Ferry Building in Justin Herman Plaza at 6 pm," says the AHF.
