Ford is set on conquering the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 as the famous carmaker is reportedly testing its new GT race car ahead of the prestigious event, Racer has learned.

The powerful car was spotted as it coursed through the Sebring International Raceway in Florida. The carmaker is currently developing the vehicle in preparation for the famous endurance car racing in Le Mans, France, and the model seen in the tracks of Serbing is still a prototype.

The automotive racing organization behind the Ford GT, Chip Ganassi Racing, confirmed that the vehicle is already in road trial.

Chip Ganassi Racing's managing editor, Mike Hull, said to Racer, "The car's being tested as we speak at Serbing with the Multimatic car. They should be wrapping up and then it's time to get ready for the next one."

Multimatic is developing the Ford GT in preparation for numerous racing events next year including the Blue Oval's FIA World Endurance Program.

Several additions and changes are still expected to arrive for the racecar.

'We're still looking at the exact date, but we're expecting our first chassis to arrive sometime next week," Hull said. He also noted that it might be in the first week of September. Preparation of the testing will be done once they get the car.

While not too many details about the actual specs of the Ford GT have been revealed, Motor Trend noted that the racecar will be outfitted with the same 600-plus horsepower engine the regular production Ford GT comes with.

However, what makes it special is the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 cylinder that can be heard rumbling from a very far distance, which seems to confirm that Ford means serious business with the new race car.

Adding to the power is a sleek bodywork that used a resculpted carbon fiber instead of the regular material placed on stock cars. There is also a front spoiler, roof scoop and side fins noticeable from the front bumper.

Multimatic also improved on the aerodynamics and downforce of the car to prepare it for the sharp curves and turns with the addition of the huge rear wing. A massive rear diffuser has also been added.

Four Ford GTs are being developed. Auto Blog reported that two of the racecars will debut at the United SportsCar Championship while the other two will be seen at the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Meanwhile, all four vehicles will be seen at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France as well.
