It is Sept.1. It is time for September call-ups and the Yankees are bringing out some familiar faces and a pitcher that hasn't been on a major league mound since 2013.

According to ESPN, the Yankees selected the following players for the September call-ups: infielders Dustin Ackley, Rob Refsnyder and Jose Pirela, catcher Austin Romine and pitchers Caleb Cotham, Andrew Bailey and James Pazos.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of them all is former All-Star closer Andrew Bailey. Bailey has not pitched in the majors since 2013 and has been toiling away in the minor leagues for a couple of years. You may remember Bailey from his days with the Oakland Athletics, where he was an All-Star in 2009 and 2010. He was also named the 2009 American League Rookie of the Year. In December 2011, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox for current A's outfielder Josh Reddick. His career in Boston didn't panned out and was released by the team in 2013. Last off season, the Yankees signed him to a minor league deal.

Dustin Ackley, who was acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline, will finally have a chance to play second base for the Yankees. Ackley is a contact hitter with some power but hasn't hit above .250 in a season since 2013. With Stephen Drew struggling this season as well, it would be interesting to see who will end up playing second base for the Yankees come postseason.

Rob Refsnyder made his major league debut earlier this season where he was impressive. He hit one home run in seven at-bats during his short stint in the majors. If the Yankees were to make the playoffs this season, what would his role be?

With the Yankees holding the first Wild Card spot, it would be interesting to see how these call-ups will do.
