The CW is hoping for another hit with a spin-off of its long-running Supernatural, a drama called Supernatural: Tribes. In order to do so, the network has recruited an alum from another one of its popular shows, The Vampire Diaries, and a young actor teens might recognize.

TV Guide reports that Nathaniel Buzolic has been cast as David Hayden. David is reportedly a shapshifter who comes from a powerful monster family in Chicago. The character, however, has been pretending to be a human since deserting the monster lifestyle years ago.

Buzolic is best known as playing Kol, the Original vampire, in The Vampire Diaries. The Australian actor's character joined the show in season 3 and became a fan favorite.

Meanwhile, yet another teen drama star has joined the cast of Supernatural: Tribes. Lucien Laviscount, known for his roles as Jason in Skins and Brian in Episodes, has been cast as Ennis Roth. According to TV Guide, the character is a trainee from the police academy. After his fiancée is made a casualty in the monster war, Ennis becomes a monster-hunter.

Buzolic and Laviscount will first appear in Supernatural on April 29. The episode will serve as a pilot for Supernatural: Tribes.

"Tribes will follow the mafia-esque monster families that run the underbelly of Chicago and are being tracked by a newly-minted Hunter who's trying to rid the city of anything supernatural," TV Guide reports.

Supernatural: Tribes is written and executive produced by Andrew Dabb of Supernatural, Variety reports.

Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries continues Feb. 27 with an episode titled "No Exit." According to E! News, Heather Hemmens, known for playing Alice in The CW's Hellcats, and Chris Brochu, who gained fame as Timmy in 2011's Soul Surfer, have recently been cast as Maggie (Enzo's love interest) and Luke (a new friend of Elena's), respectively.
