A rare pink dolphin that was discovered in Louisiana in 2007 was spotted again two weeks ago by a local charter boat captain.

Captain Erik Rue of Calcasieu Charter Service says that he first sighted the unique dolphin, which is affectionately known as "Pinkie," swimming alongside its mother eight years ago in Calcasieu River's ship channel, reports WGNO.

Now, the same fisherman says he recently saw Pinkie mating in Louisiana's Lake Charles two weeks ago. He also released that Pinkie is a female.

"I've taken a ton of pictures of her mating and it proved she's a female," Rue told ABC News Tuesday. "I believe I'm first one who saw her and I know I'm the first one to take pictures of her.

"I've learned a lot since I've spend a lot of time following her around."

Rue adds that Pinkie has re-emerged several times over the last few weeks and that she has become a local celebrity that has attracted visitors to his charter.

"I think many are a bit surprised when they actually see it and it's actually bright pink, like we've told them," Rue said. "They say, 'Oh my gosh, it's really pink.' They are surprised that it's just the way we described it to them. It's very stunning to look at. Everyone whips out their cell phones to try and capture a picture, or video of it and, of course, we accommodate."

"We still see her swimming almost every day in the summertime. We've seen her a lot in the last few weeks. She looks happy and healthy," Rue added.

Rue admitted that he is unclear how the fascinating dolphin got her unique hue.

"Dolphins have pink bellies, so I just kind of started of thinking that this is a genetic glitch," he said. "If it was albino, I believe it would be white. I've changed what I thought, over time, as I analyzed the pictures I have. Other than it being pink and her eyes not opening all the way, it's a perfectly normal dolphin and does all the things the rest of them do. It's interesting to know things like that exist in the world and it's really beautiful to see that."

Scientists also initially believed she might be an albino with a particular rosy hue, but now most people believe she may have a genetic disorder.
