"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeff Bell teased what really happened to Jemma Simmons and the agency's other challenges in season 3.

Bell shared on TV Line that Simmons' (Elizabeth Henstridge) situation was actually a "fun stuff." For fans who witnessed the kree monolith swallowed the gifted BioChem scientist when it momentarily turned into a liquid state in the finale, it didn't look like fun at all. Nor would it be enjoyable for her dear lab partner, Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), to worry about her whereabouts and rack his brains into finding her again.

Still, whatever it is that happened to Simmons must be really worth the wait as hinted by Henstridge herself and Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy Johnson in the show, Zap2it reported.

"It's so much bigger than I thought it would be. What it is, I thought about it and was like, 'How would they do that? How would they film that?' I just dismissed everything in the realm of this idea. It's very cool. It's very cool," Henstridge teased.

"I didn't guess it. I was like, oh, OK, we're going there. That's happening now. It will be good," Bennet said.

The bad guys

Meanwhile, per TV Line, Bell also stated that Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) will emerge from "a vessel of somebody else's wrath" to the main leader of his own team going against his former family, S.H.I.E.L.D.

Aside from Ward, the executive producer confirmed that the mysterious government organization, Advanced Threat Containment Unit (ATCU), headed by Constance Zimmer's character will indeed be a threat to Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) agency, as it also focuses on hunting the gifted individuals called Inhumans.

"They really are against us, which forces our team to come together," Bell said.

With Coulson and Bennet focused into helping the Inhumans to control their powers, the ATCU may just have other agenda, based on Bell's statements.

Still a strong team

Although fans watched Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) left for a much-needed vacation in the finale, she will still be active this season, Bell shared. Also, even though agents Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) will be having a spin-off series of their own, the team may still be having them around for a big portion of next season as it "laying the groundwork" for that is still "down the road," stated Bell.

For Coulson, viewers will see him trying "hands" that will fit him.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will return for the third season on Sept. 29 on ABC.
