The cast of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" continues to grow along with anticipation for the next season.

Recent news indicates that Australian actress Essie Davis has just been officially cast to appear in season 6. The name of her character has not yet been revealed, but according to Entertainment Weekly, she is set to play "a member of a traveling theater troupe in Braavos that stages a play called 'The Bloody Hand' -- a version of all the King's Landing intrigue that's gone down on the show since the series began."

In this play her character is also said to be portraying Cersei Lannister, confirming that the antics of the royal family have made news worldwide.

Davis is most notable for her breakout role in the 2014 horror film "The Babadook." She's also held roles in two "Matrix" sequels, along with the Australian version of "The Slap" miniseries.

The actress now joins the long list on new characters for next season, including Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven, Ian McShane and Richard E. Grant in mystery roles, Freddie Stroma as Dickon Tarly, and Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy.

Fans of the long-running series will miss signature characters such as Jon Snow, as showrunners have confirmed he will not appear in the next season, despite the numerous rumors to the contrary.

"This is my understanding of it," Jon Snow actor Kit Harington told Entertainment Weekly. "I had a sit-down with Dan and David, we did the Tony Soprano walk [letting an actor know they're being whacked]. And they said, 'Look, you're gone, it's done.' And as far as the salary thing goes, that angered me when that story came out. I don't know where it came from, but it was inaccurate in many ways. It's going to put questions into your head and into fans' heads that things are not what they are."

"Game of Thrones" is set to return to HBO in the spring.
