The Marvel universe on Netflix just keeps on getting bigger -- the third series from the heavy-hitting comic book franchise, "Luke Cage," has seen casting developments that include adding Hollywood veteran Frank Whaley.

According to DeadlineWhaley will be joining the show to portray Detective Scarfe. Scarfe is not just any cop on the show, but rather a hard-edged character that will be nothing but gritty with the show's lead character.

Luke Cage will be portrayed on screen by Mike Colter, who will be pulling triple duty on the platform with appearances in the tied universe of "Jessica Jones" and "Daredevil."

Although it is unclear at this time if Whaley will be tied to the other shows or making any cameos, he will be playing a major role in "Cage" that will pit him against both sides of the law.

Cage is wrongly accused of a crime and sent to prison, but he escapes after being given super strength when an experiment is sabotaged. Now he gets by as a superhero for hire and uses his powers to team with Jessica Jones and others at a detective agency.

He will not only appear on his own show, but cross over on "Jessica Jones," who will be portrayed on screen by actress Krysten Ritter. Jones is a former superhero who fell from grace and upon her return, she joins Cage at the agency and they power through hard cases together at Alias Investigations.

Also starring on "Cage" are Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick and Theo Rossi. Rosario Dawson is set to reprise the same role she plays on "Daredevil."

There is another live-action series on the horizon for Netflix as well, "Iron Fist," which will bring the Marvel-Neflix series total to four upon its release, presumed to be 2016. "Cage" will be released on the platform in 2016 and "Jones" will debut on Nov. 20.
