Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' new "Godzilla" trailer has stormed onto the Internet, and it looks to be light on the cheese, heavy on the destruction.

"You are not fooling anybody when you say that what happened was a natural disaster," says panicked scientist, Bryan Cranston, star of the hit crime drama, "Breaking Bad". "You're lying. It was not an earthquake, it wasn't a typhoon. Because what's really happening is that you're hiding something out there - and it is going to send us back to the Stone Age!"

Cranston looks like he has a right to be afraid, as the trailer teases viewers with brief scenes of smoking streets, collapsed buildings and even a shot of a damaged Statue of Liberty (pretty much guaranteeing that the legendary kaiju will be taking a visit to the shores of Manhattan at some point in the film).

The most breathtaking scenes involve the King of All Monsters itself, so massive the frame can't hold its entire reptilian form. Instead we're treated to awesome shots such as when the creature emerges from the sea, its iconic scales jutting on the surface like shark fins. Towards the end there's a brief glimpse of the beast's profile as he lets out a roar that would make Jurassic Park's Tyrannosaurus Rex jealous.

This is the first American Godzilla since the 1998 'disaster' film with Matthew Broderick. This new version (directed by Gareth Edwards, who worked on the visuals for the 2010 sci-fi, "Monsters") looks to be far more promising. The film also looks to tie in to the original Japanese movie's mythology, referencing the nuclear tests of the 1950's.

Bryan Cranston will be joined by Ken Watanabe, rumored to be playing the protagonist from the original film. Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will also star.

"Godzilla" is scheduled for release on May 16th.
