The Delta State University shooter killed himself yesterday after being cornered by the police.

The shooter, identified as Shannon Lamb, killed himself yesterday as police were closing in on him.

Lamb was a suspect in two shootings.

Ethan Schmidt, a professor at the university, was found dead in his office at Jobe Hall after being shot in the head.

Earlier in the day, Amy Prentiss was found dead at her home in Gautier, Mississippi. The home is located 300 miles away from the university. According to reports, Lamb was living with Prentiss before the shooting. It is unknown if Prentiss and Schmidt knew each other while employed at Delta State.

Late Monday night, Mississippi police were closing in on Lamb, as they pulled over his black 2011 Dodge Avenger near Greenville, Mississippi. When he was spotted by the cops, Lamb went into the woods where police heard a single gunshot. Eventually, they discovered Lamb's body.

According to Yahoo, Lamb was also a teacher at the university, where he taught geography and social science. Police said that they have no idea why Lamb shot both Schmidt and Prentiss.

Schmidt had quite the resume. Before joining Delta State, he earned a doctorate in early American history and Native American history from the University of Kansas. He taught six years at the University of Texas before joining Delta State.

There are over 4,000 students on campus. Classes were cancelled Monday and Tuesday, and it is unknown if classes will resume Wednesday. Today marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the university.

No other suspects have been taken in by police relating to this case.
