Now that Flappy Bird has joined the list of defunct smartphone apps, what is there for us to download?

Thanks to huge iOS and Android app stores, there are plenty of apps to choose from but it is hard to know just where to begin.

1. Runkeeper: The downside to this app is that it only applies to people who enjoy running, but it is still popular nonetheless. The best part of it is that it is now free after it used to be part of a twofold pair of applications that were separated into one that was free and one that was not free. This app is perfect for those of you who want to track your progress when you're out for a run. This app also can be found in both app stores.

2. WhatsApp: This one is popular on almost any smartphone and it will save you boatloads of money if you're someone who frequently contacts people outside of the United States. It works as a texting platform but it is over the Internet so you can use your data without having to drown yourself in texting costs. Even better is that the company is planning to introduce voice-calling capabilities

3. Flappy Wings: Obviously this app is perfect for those of you who just could not get enough of Flappy Bird. This spinoff game follows the same general pattern as Flappy Bird but there are additional features to it such as the ability to collect coins

4. Twitter: Gone are the days when everyone flocked to the app store to find an app other than Twitter to handle their Twitter accounts. The Twitter app has been improved over the past couple years and now it can be used by itself without much difficulty.

5. Tetris Blitz: This game is a favorite on both iOS and Android app stores. It is a hit among people who loved the original Tetris and it serves as a new way for the younger generation to enjoy a new version of the classic game.
