The long awaited Final Fantasy 15 title hasn't yet received a solid release date. However, game director Hajime Tabata has relayed to Gamespot recently that fans can expect it in the upcoming year.

"At the very least, I can tell you that it isn't going to be released this year," he said. "I think we'll be able to tell you when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

Given the lack of new or impressive content released regarding the game since its reveal at Gamescom 2015, fans have become restless waiting for the game to arrive.

"We really do get the feeling that people are a bit worried," Tabata stated. "Certainly, one thing I would like to say to them to reassure them, is that we've set down the release date, we know when it is, and we've got a complete road map lined up, right up to launch, and we're proceeding along that as planned. We can certainly say to people: it's not going to be 2017. It's going to be before that."

The game director attributed the delay to Square Enix's plan to have a simultaneous launch across different countries. This type of release is a first for any numbered entry in the series. Typically, games in the series have always become available in Japan months before arriving in other countries.

"This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we've done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch, so we didn't have the setup to deal with that, really," Tabata told Gamespot in a Q&A.

He went on to say that this procedure would require Square Enix rearrange their internal structure, which would extend the development process.

Final Fantasy 15 will launch on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One in 2016.
