With the beginning of awards season upon us only a few films will be released on DVD in order not distract from the many offerings currently in theaters. Among the releases are "Pitch Perfect 2" and "Saint Laurent."

Weekly Highlights

"Pitch Perfect 2": The big release of the weekend is without a doubt the sequel to Universal's big hit "Pitch Perfect." The new film, which is directed by Elizabeth Banks, tells the story of the Barden Bellas who enter an international competition that no American group has ever won. As a result, after being humiliated at Lincoln Center, the team must compete to regain their status and right to perform. When the movie opened back in May, the comedy opened to good reviews and made $183 million. After obtaining such a big opening and overall box office Universal immediately ordered a third film. With such a huge fan base, "Pitch Perfect 2" will likely attract Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson fans as well as fans of the first one who did not see the sequel in theaters.

"Saint Laurent": Sony Pictures Classics will finally release the movie about Yves Saint Laurent's life from 1967 to 1976. The French film depicts the time in which the famed fashion designer was at the peak of his career. The film was released in May after having its birth at the Cannes Film Festival a year earlier. Starring Lea Seydoux, Gaspard Ulliel, Jeremie Renier and Louis Garrel, the film opened to mixed reviews and never took off at the box office. Despite being France's Official Oscar selection last year Sony did not give it a huge marketing campaign, and the running time is more than two hours. While there was another Saint Laurent film already released, this one is likely to get more attention as it obtained better reviews and goes more in-depth on the life of the fashion designer.

"Results": After making its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Magnolia's film starring Guy Pearce and Cobie Smulders will finally be released on DVD. The film tells the story of two mismatched personal trainers' whose lives are upended when they are hired by a wealthy client. "Results" opened to rave reviews when it came out in theaters but failed to gain an audience. The movie only made $104,507 and most of its audience came from VOD. With comedies lacking due to the awards season rush, it is likely the movie could gain a new found audience.

Other releases

The week sees yet another batch of TV series on DVD. The first series of "The Flash" will be released after a huge success on TV. It also arrives a few weeks before the second season is set to premiere. The CW will also release "Arrow Season 3" in anticipation for the fourth season.
