At WWE "Night of Champions" on Sunday night, Roman Reigns was approached in the ring by a fan, before security intervened.

Before the Wyatt Family vs Dean Ambrose, Reigns and Chris Jericho match, a WWE fan hopped over the security barricade and headed for Reigns in the ring, according to Bleacher Report.

The fan and Reigns looked at each other for a split second, before security took the fan down and escorted him out of the arena.

WWE released a statement about the incident, stating, "WWE takes the safety of our performers very seriously and any fan entering the ring area will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

SB Nation's Bill Hanstock tweeted a GIF of the incident. You can check it out below:

This isn't the first time a fan has hopped over the security barricade to get up close and personal with a superstar. Earlier this year, a fan walked down the entrance ramp with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins during an episode of "Monday Night Raw."

In June, a fan threw a replica "Money in the Bank" briefcase at Reigns during a WWE Live event. The fan was eventually ejected from the arena after the incident.

Most recently, Dean Ambrose was almost attacked by a fan during a "Smackdown" taping.

The WWE security team needs to do a better job of protecting their wrestlers. It is a growing and disturbing trend that needs to stop before someone gets seriously hurt.
