Actress Ana Brenda Contreras has reportedly auditioned to be part of the telenovela superstar Salma Hayek is currently developing.

The "Lo Imperdonable" star has auditioned for the role of the main protagonist in the developing telenovela, whose name is unknown, reported Televisa Espectaculos.

Contreras reportedly went to Los Angeles to audition for the role. If she gets the part, it will coincided with her already planned move from Mexico to the United States to study acting so that she can get access to more roles.

Now that she finished filming for "Lo Imperdonable," where she plays the lead role of Verónica Prado Castelo, Contreras is looking for her next project.

Hayek, who began her career in the telenovela "Teresa," recently revealed her plans to return to telenovelas but this time by working behind the cameras.

According to El Universal, during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, the actress discussed her upcoming projects and dished about working on a telenovela in Mexico.

"Right now I'm developing something with ABC, which I hope to get on the air. Its a soap opera for the US audience; but what excites me is that people could see how sophisticated is the city of Mexico, when we talk about art, architecture, food, music and style," said the actress.

During her interview at TIFF, the Mexican star also talked about facing a lot of bumps in Hollywood for being a woman and a Latina.

Hayek explained that she's always wanted to make great films and, if Hollywood wasn't going to let her, she chose to do it on her own and started producing her own.

"I don't want to complain about something but not be working to change it," said the 49-year-old, who said that she eventually came to learn that "It was better to fail doing your real dream than to succeed doing a dream that wasn't really yours."
