The Twitch Plays Pokémon series continued with Pokémon Crystal Version on March 2 and progression with the second-generation game could outpace "Red Version."

The Pokémon Crystal Version experiment stream started at 7 p.m. EST with the protagonist receiving his name "AJDNNW." With the odd name, fans of the stream have simply nicknamed him "A.J."

The social experiment allows gamers to interact with eight options to type from the keyboards for the input system to translate -- a, b, start select, up, down, left, right -- but gamers should be warned that there is "considerable" input lag and might take up to 20 seconds for a user's demand to be fulfilled. Perhaps a sign of being familiar with the Twitch Plays Pokémon format, gamers have managed to secure the first gym badge from the Johto region in record time compared to the Kanto journey.

A.J. arrived to Violet City and battled Gym Leader Falkner, an expert on bird, or Flying-type, Pokémon. Gamers, controlling A.J., successfully secured the Zephyr Badge in less than 20 minutes when entering Violet City's gym. It only took eight hours, five minutes, and 21 seconds to defeat Falkner in comparison to the nine hours and 12 minutes to obtain the first gym badge from Brock during "Pokémon Red Version."

During the first 14 hours of gameplay, six Pokémon have been obtained. The starter Pokémon for the Johto journey was Totodile, which has rapidly leveled up to Level 24 by hour 19. Caterpie, Pidgey, Sentret, and Wooper were later caught while Togepi finalized the top-six party as an egg gift. In comparison to Totodile, by hour 19 of gameplay, the remaining five Pokémon are Level 9 or less.

Gym Leader Falkner of Violet City Battle:

By hour 19 and 20 minutes, gamers managed to send A.J. to the Azalea Town's gym and prepare for a battle against Bug-type specialist Bugsy. Once again, gamers have arrived to the region's second gym in record time compared to the Kanto experience. It took gamers one day, 18 hours, 56 minutes, and 31 second to defeat Kanto's second gym leader, Misty, while Bugsy's defeat occurred at 20 hours, 40 minutes, and 26 seconds. Totodile has been able to evolve since Level 18 but some gamers have chosen to select "B" to halt the evolution process.

The Twitch Plays Pokémon Crystal Version comes after 16 days of continuous gameplay of Pokémon Red Version, when Zapdos finally toppled Kanto Champion Blue with a Thundershock on Blastoise.

Combined with the Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Crystal Version gameplay, so far, 40.2 million viewers have observed the adventure originally for the Nintendo Game Boy handset.
