Recent evidence is starting to suggest that fans of popular Nintendo properties may be able to expect a live-action movie on the horizon, namely from the "Zelda" series.

In a recent interview with MTV, creator of "The Legend of Zelda" Shigeru Miyamoto and game designer Takashi Tezuka discussed possible casting for a film adaptation. While they don't have anyone specifically in mind at the moment, the two stated the likelihood of them using a Japanese actor for the main character Link was very low. In fact, they may even be considering gender-bending the iconic character to fit a better mold.

"With Japanese TV drama and film they always use the same actors so I actually think we should have someone completely new," said Miyamoto.

"I can't think of any," Tezuka chimed in. "This is just personally, it would very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress, a boyish female actress."

Miyamoto goes on to say that he believes Link wouldn't be depicted well by a Japanese actor. He's become inspired by a variety of different looks by seeing fans dress in cosplay.

Just a few years ago, Nintendo seemed to be firmly against turning their video game properties into live-action films. This deterrence was more than likely from the abysmal response from 1993 "Super Mario Bros." movie. However, Miyamoto goes on to explain why they're considering opening their doors.

"As Nintendo is an entertainment company we think about ways of expanding outside of video games and not being limited," he said. "So we do not have anything in the immediate works but we are definitely interested and open to it."

This statement seems to coincide with the recent "Legend of Zelda" Neflix series rumors that circulated some time ago. Nintendo later replied stating that it was "not based on correct information."
