After a nearly three-year hiatus, alternative rock band Coldplay are gearing up to release their sixth studio album Ghost Stories on May 19, according to Rolling Stone.

The British group announced the release of the album with its second track "Magic," which the magazine describes as easygoing and romantic pop. "Midnight," the album's fifth track was released through its music video at the end of February.

Between Ghost Stories and their 2011 release of Mylo Xyloto, the band recorded a song for The Hunger Games: Chasing Fire soundtrack entitled "Atlas," which was released last fall.

According to "Rolling Stone's" review of the new song "Magic," it is a return to Coldplay's traditional form as lead singer Chris Martin lays down his famous falsetto tones in front of catchy guitar sounds, despite its heavy use of warbling synths and guitar reverb.

Coldplay achieved world fame status with their hit song "Yellow" from their 2000 debut album Parachutes.

Throughout the years following their success, the band has become activists and advocates for numerous nutritional food and human rights campaigns.

Despite advertising their music with Apple Inc.'s iTunes and performing at a special concert following the death of Steve Jobs, the band refuses to let their music be played for consumer sponsorship and has turned down multi-million dollar deals from numerous corporations.

The band is expected to go on tour following the album's release but the show dates have not been announced yet. Coldplay will perform in Austin, Texas for iTune's festival at South by Southwest on March 11.

Coldplay's last tour, the Mylo Xyloto tour, took the group around Europe, North America and Australasia between October 2011 and December 2012.

The May 19 release will feature a nine-track record but the band is also releasing a Target exclusive version that will have three more songs than the regular album.
