“Switched at Birth” is putting the spotlight on the financial woes and parental frustrations that come along with adulthood.

A teaser for Episode 17 of Season 4, “To The Victor Belong The Spoils," shows Bay (Vanessa Marano) visibly panicked and asking her parents if the IRS is coming after them.

The show, which is centered on a story about Daphne (Katie Leclerc) trying to raise money to help deaf kids in Mexico, shows a tense scene in which Toby (Lucas Grabeel) tries to assert his parental rights over Lily (Rachel Shenton), saying, “I’m the baby’s father and I have rights too.”

His pregnant ex-girlfriend then says, “If I want to move to London I don’t need your permission."

There are problems regarding infidelity too as Daphne is confronted about kissing some guy she did volunteer work with.

Fans of the series can’t say they did not see these calamities coming.

Speaking to Zap2it recently, Marano explained that the latter half of Season 4 would have a lot of adult problems.

“This season, as far as the adult in the Vasquez-Kennish family, is going to be a really interesting season,” the 22-year-old actress said. “All of a sudden the roles are sort of reversed.”

Speaking about what Toby would be going though, she said he “is going to need the rallying and the support” of the family to get by. Show creator Lizzy Weiss spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about what was in store for Toby as well, saying, “He's pretty angry at Lily. ... He has a lot of stuff to go through this season.”

The next episode of “Switched at Birth,” ABC Family's hit teen drama about the lives of two young women who were, like the title of the show says, switched at birth, airs Oct. 5 on ABC Family.
