New apps appear on the Apple and Google stores all the time but only certain ones gain steam in popularity.

It is always interesting to check out the latest app releases and today we'll be taking a look at some of the most recent ones to hit the market on both stores. Some of the ones listed are paid while some others are free.

1. Splashy Fish on Android: Of course another Flappy Bird spinoff has made its way to the app stores. This one follows the similar pattern as the game it is based on. Although this is listed as one of the new releases, there will be plenty others just like it.

2. Learnist on Apple Store: This app is free and says it has "the world's knowledge at your fingertips." The interesting part about this app is the fact that the knowledge is a combination of crowd sourcing. The reviews have been positive but some people complained that the app was crashing.

3. MLB.com At Bat on Apple Store: This app was revamped just in time for the upcoming baseball season and it is completely free. Video playback, a new scoreboard, and an overall redesign of the app was completed this offseason and perhaps this will attract more baseball fans.

4. Spongebob Moves In on Android: This is a new game and it is ranked right on the top of the list for the best new games on the app store. It costs $3.99 and was created by Nickelodeon.

5. Bridge Constructor on Apple Store: This game might bring you back to high school classes when you were learning about bridges. This game is free and has over 11 million players around the world according to its creators. As one user said in a comment on the app store, it is "a simple, addictive and rather well done little building game.
