One Direction's taking a break, but at least one member will still be in the limelight when they all go their separate ways. Louis Tomlinson might be going back to his roots as a musician and take over as a judge in "America's Got Talent."

According to a report from Hollywood Life, none other than Simon Cowell is interested in bringing Tomlinson on to the reality television show. A source revealed that the "America's Got Talent" team would be keeping an eye on the One Direction star on his stint as a guest mentor on "The X Factor" to see if he would be a good choice to fill up the free spot on the judges' table.

"Simon wants 'America's Got Talent' to skew younger," the source explained to Hollywood Life. "[He] is using Louis' gig on 'The X Factor' as a test to see if he should fill Howard Stern's spot."

The insider added, ""And if Louis doesn't take the spot, Simon will take it."

Stern ended his four-season run as a judge in "America's Got Talent" after the last season wrapped up the previous summer. According to a report from Variety, the radio host already expressed his desire to exit earlier on "The Howard Stern Show" in SiriusXM station.

"I told them this is my last season," he revealed. "I am going t[h]rough my own career evaluation right now. I'm just too [expletive] busy."

In contrast, Tomlinson will be taking a break from the gruelling One Direction schedule as he and his bandmates take a hiatus to explore their solo careers. In an interview with Beats 1 Radio, the band revealed their plans for the short breather they're taking from each other, according to Metro.

"I'll go from singer to estate agent," Harry Styles said. "I like the little ones [houses] because then you throw in 'it's romantic,' which means it's tiny, while 'it's cute' means it has a window."

Liam Payne joked about being a fireman because his career advisor told him so while Niall Horan wants to give a career in spinning music a try.

"I'd like to be a DJ," Horan admitted. "I'll be raving it up."

Tomlinson didn't reveal his plans during the radio show, but now it seems the soon-to-be dad has a job waiting for him in television.

One Direction got their break on the show "The X Factor," so going back to the reality show circuit is a natural progression for the singer as he carves out his solo career.
