While there are no firm confirmations of the iPhone 6 release date, new developments indicate that its launch may be coming sooner than later.

Major electronic retailers are cutting prices for the iPhone 5S and 5C, which probably means they are clearing space for Apple's new device.

Starting this weekend, Walmart is offering the largest discount on market, dropping the price of the iPhone 5S to $119 with a two year AT&T contract. The 5S's cheaper plastic-encased cousin, the 5C,  is being offered for $29 with a contract.

Best Buy is also getting in on the action, dropping 5S prices down to $150 with a Verizon, Sprint, of AT&T contract. 5Cs will be offered for $50. Target is also promoting a $50 trade-value increase when customers exchange an iPhone 4s for an iPhone 5.

If this news doesn't convince you that an iPhone 6 launch is coming soon, then maybe a report from Taiwan outlet Commerical Times might.

The Chinese-language paper reports that Apple plans to order over 90 million units of the new smartphone from iPhone maker, Foxconn Electronics.

Citing data from Citigroup Global Markets, DigiTimes writes:

"Buoyed by shipments of iPhone 6, Apple's smartphone shipments are expected to rise 23% in 2014 compared to 13% growth posted a year earlier, the paper quoted Wei Chen, an analyst at Citigroup Global Markets, as saying."

While some are expecting at September release date, others believe that Apple may try for an earlier launch in June or July. This could be to make up for the disappointing sales of the iPhone 5C. Reports indicate that 3 million units remain unsold.
