When the new app Talking Angela was released, it allowed children to play with an animated virtual cat. They could customize her appearance and even repeat her words. In fact, this kind of artificial intelligence app has been around for a long time now. Talking Angela would not have been a huge issue if it were not for the Facebook hoax claiming that the talking cat is in fact a pedophile ring. The app has reappeared in social media these past weeks and has become viral since then.

The hoax warned parents not to download the app claiming that it was a pedophile app and that the developer could hack into the phone to take pictures and video of the children as well as other information. Despite the fact that this was ultimately just a hoax, it became a huge topic in the world of social networking and has reached over 700,000 page views already.

The app was created by Outfit 7 as a part of the Talking Tom and Friends series. It currently has over 230 million active users monthly. The app has over 1.5 billion downloads since it was first released in 2010.

Chief Executive Samo Login was asked to comment on the negative publicity issues. He said that it was obviously a hoax and wondered how it actually attracted attention. He added that it is a ridiculous idea considering that the app already has millions of users all over the world. Login also reassured parents that the virtual cat and chat bot is actually safe and can handle clean conversations.

According to the creators of Talking Angela, there is no communication that takes place between the user and another person via the talking cat. It is actually responding based on prior programmed intelligence. Login says it is unfair to brand the app as a pedophile app and has maintained its integrity for several years now.
