The thrilling new post-apocalyptic series about demons coming to MTV, "The Shannara Chronicles," has released an exciting new trailer that fans of "Game of Thrones" and "Lord of the Rings" will absolutely love.

According to Deadline, the series is based off the bestselling book series by author Terry Brooks. Even though demons are the primary antagonists in the show, it is filled with all kinds of creatures of legend that includes elves and fairies.

The series is based thousands of years in the future and takes place after the apparent fall of civilization.

The Shannara family are descendants of a legendary tribe of warriors who have been blessed with magical powers that has its roots in ancient beings.

It is now the human race that is on the line and three heroes must come in and fight the demon hordes to help save their brethren, and essentially, save the human race from extinction.

The series stars John Rhys-Davies ("Lord of the Rings"), Manu Bennett, Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton and Ivana Baquero.

MTV screened a trailer for fans at the New York Comic Con this year, and suffice it to say, the reaction was quite welcoming for the show.

The series has been brought to life by the creators of the CW's "Smallville," Al Gough and Miles Millar. Brooks will serve as showrunner for the series alongside Jon Favreau ("Iron Man") and Jonathan Liebesman, who directed the first two episodes.

The series is expected to come to MTV next year on Jan. 5 and has been given a 10-episode order for the first season.

The first episode has been slated to kick off the series with a two-hour special premiere and will air in its normal 10 p.m. time slot for the cable network.
