Those who worry Robert Downey Jr. won't be coming back for another "Iron Man" movie can officially lay their doubts to rest.

None other than "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist Tony Stark in the fourth installment of the "Iron Man" film franchise, Ecumenical News reported.

Rumor has it that "Iron Man 4" would be a passing of the torch kind of movie for Downey Jr. The film will allegedly have Tony Stark bequeathing the Iron Man suit (or suits) to a young albeit worthy fellow. The new Iron Man is said to be the teenage Harley Keener, played by Ty Simpkins. Yes, he was that kid we last saw in "Iron Man 3" who helped Stark recover from PTSD, among other things.

It's worth mentioning the boy was handsomely rewarded with cool Stark Tech gadgetry at the end of the film. As trivial as the gesture seemed, it was enough to hint Harley might take up the Iron Man mantle some day.

Furthermore, "Iron Man 4" may see the titular hero go up against a global terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings. The clandestine group had a hand at Tony Stark's kidnapping that led him to create the Iron Man suit in the first place.

There are also rumors suggesting Mary Jane Watson will appear in the film, in accordance with upcoming "Invincible Iron Man" comic book series by Brian Bendis.

"I sat with that for a while and I always go to this place in my head where I [wonder] what the most interesting thing I would like to see that character do now and it fell right into the ideas I was already cooking for Tony Stark," the author told Marvel.

Master Herald speculated the comic book alliance could very well be adapted to film since current moviegoers have Gwen Stacey in mind as Peter Parker's love interest, due to the last two Spider-Man movies.

It should be noted that Spider-Man will side with Stark in next year's "Captain America" movie, giving the Mary Jane Watson rumor some added weight. At any rate, Bendis had this to say on Stark and Watson's relationship in the comics:

"They know each other. She used to live in Avengers Tower. But that's all I'm going to say for now because what kind of relationship they end up having is a big part of what I would like people to buy the book for. But what I can tell you is that it is new territory for both Tony and Mary Jane. And that is pretty exciting to write."

"Iron Man 4" is said to hit theaters on 2019.
