The "Power Rangers" movie reboot is starting to kick off in a major way with a number of casting announcements.

While last week only names of actors that were in contention for the main roles were received, it can now be said that most of the Ranger casting is officially confirmed.

Earlier this week, Lionsgate confirmed that actress Naomi Scott will play the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery will portray the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin will be the Black Ranger, and we'll see actor R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

As previously reported, all of the actors involved aren't yet big household names just yet, but talented performers in their own right. Cyler took on a notable role in this summer's indie hit "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl," while Scott was featured in "The Martian" and Ludi Lin was in the Chinese film "Monster Hunt."

Dean Israelite has been confirmed to direct the film from a script that written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The movie plans to reinvent the origin story from the original "Power Rangers" series with a group of unsuspecting teenagers who must band together in order to take on an invading alien force.

"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way," Israelite told IGN. "It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure."

"Oh, yes, it needs to be completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny," he continued. "But like Project Almanac, I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it."

"Power Rangers" plans to start production in January 2016 and find its way into theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.
