Oscar winner and Hollywood darling Lupita Nyong'o has reportedly met with director JJ Abrams to talk about a lead role in Star Wars Episode 7.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the 12 Years a Slave break-out star met with the director before the role of Patsey earned her an Oscar. The speculation around Nyong'o's role is that she's a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi -- which would add an interesting, and progressive, twist to the Star Wars saga. Indeed, early descriptions of the "descendent of the Obi-Wan Kenobi" character have made clear that she is NOT white!

For their part, Forbes Magazine applauds this decision of Abrams, if indeed it comes to pass as Abrams has remained tight-lipped on much of the current Star Wars Episode 7 happenings. In fact, writer Alex Knapp goes one step further to suggest that Nyong'o not have a supporting role, but rather a lead role in the film. Aside from her undeniable talent, Knapp -- a white man -- believes that if Star Wars tells the story of a young black woman finding her way in the Force, it would be iconic.

Thanks to Star Wars being in the pop culture zeitgeist, what better way to represent the changing face of America than the story of a beautiful black woman as a heroine in an iconic film?

"Making Lupita Nyong'o the star of those movies is a win-win," writes Knapp, and I couldn't agree more.
