A search has ended in tragedy for the Corzine family. Following a search for their missing son, the former governor and his family discover he was found dead in Mexico. Although having lived a troubled life, the death of Corzine's son still comes as shock to the family and friends.

The body of Jeffrey Corzine, 31, was found in Mexico City following a search called on by his family. The youngest son of former Democratic Governor Jon Corzine, Jeffrey Corzine had had a difficult life, according to the Star Ledger. He had battled depression and substance abuse but also tried to help others overcome their difficulties.

"The sad fact is that Jeffrey Corzine had been suffering from severe depression for several years and recently had been receiving treatment for what is a very painful and debilitating physical and mental ailment. On Tuesday morning, he succumbed to his disease and made the tragic decision to take his own life," spokesman Steven Goldberg said in a statement.

Corzine lived in California and was also an aspiring photographer. According to the New York Daily News, he successfully battled his substance abuse in a rehab center in southern California and was part of the Alcoholics Anonymous community in Malibu. The family suspected something was wrong when Corzine stopped responding to messages from the family. Finally, he was tracked down via his credit card history and was found in an apartment in the Mexican capital.

Although it is not exactly clear how he died, the Daily News confirms that Corzine was found dead on Tuesday, having taken his own life. The family reasserts that his suicide was not due to a drug relapse.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Governor Corzine, Joanne and the entire Corzine family on the tragic loss of Jeffrey," tweeted Governor New Jersey Chris Christie Thursday. "They are both devoted parents and the loss they have suffered is unthinkable."
