Halloween is right around the corner, and some families still need to find a cool place to take their children trick-or-treating in New York.

Many of the islands in New York provide great trick-or-treating opportunities. One option is City Island, where kids can get goodies from families in the local neighborhood. Another is the free parade in Roosevelt Island, which begins at Blackwell House and marches down Main Street, before ending with a big celebration at Capobianco Field.

Not feeling the water scene or want to try something different? The Halloween Walk in Forest Hills provides a fun alternative. Attendees can stroll through the neighborhood in an event sponsored by the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, where they can also trick-or-treat in the parking lot and receive raffle prizes.

Mix it up with an annual Dumbo Business Improvement District tradition. Start off with a reading of "Jack O'Lantern" and free hot chocolate at the Brooklyn Roasting Company. Later in the day, children can parade through Brooklyn Bridge Park to the Manhattan Bridge to enjoy a costume contest, crafts and treats.

There is a Halloween Parade in Brooklyn Heights as well, where children can show off their costumes and purchase treats.

Another Halloween Parade in Brooklyn is happening at Cobble Hill Park. After families are done marching, they can go trick-or-treating at the businesses on Court Street nearby and at the houses down Clinton Street.

For those looking for a party instead, a good option is the Halloween Costume Parade and Party starting at Citigroup Plaza on Greenwich St. at N. Moore St., where families can march down to the park, search for a penny in a haystack, receive treats and more. Line up starts at 12:45 p.m. rain or shine.

Finally, celebrators can honor the "Superheroes in Gotham" exhibition by attending the New York Haunted Society's Superheroes Halloween Bash on Friday to kick start Halloween festivities. Children can make trick or treat bags, complete a glow in the dark scavenger hunt and more.
