The latest Mega Millions drawing last Tuesday, March 18, put up for grabs a cool $400,000,000 jackpot, the 3rd largest jackpot in Mega Million's history and seventh largest in U.S lottery jackpot.

According to the Boston.Com, a lone winner of the jackpot who opts for a cash up front payment takes home $224 million. The Mega Millions game changed its rules in October, allowing for "larger starting jackpots, faster growing jackpots, a million-dollar second prize and better odds of winning any prize," according to the Mega Millions website.

Jackpot Draw

The draw for the jackpot was at 11:00 pm ET and saw two lucky people win the estimated jackpot of $ 400,000,000. The draw results were 11, 19, 24, 33, 51 and 7. Their correct match of 5+1 number means the lucky players will split the pot with their winnings to be determined if they opt for a staggered payment or cash up front.

Mechanics of the Game

Mega Millions is America's biggest jackpot game with pots beginning at a whopping $15 million and other prizes ranging from $1 to $ 1,000,000.

Mega Millions drawings are every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 pm ET. There are five balls drawn from a set of balls that are numbered 1 through 75. Another ball is drawn from a set of balls ranging from 1 through 15. Winners are determined if players are able to match, through a purchased ticket, the entire set of draw numbers on the specified date. There are nine ways to win a prize, from $1 to the jackpot. If the jackpot is not won, a portion of ticket sales is added to the jackpot for the next drawing. The overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 15.
