The launch of the Gionee Elife S Plus is fast-approaching. Hence, what better way for the company to heighten the excitement for its flagship phablet than by teasing the device on its official social media accounts.

The Chinese mobile maker posted a promotional teaser of the Elife S Plus on both its Facebook and Twitter pages. The image had the caption, "Prepare your senses to experience the next level in mobile technology. Keep watching! #SenseThePlus."

Aside from those words, the company didn't disclose further details regarding the Elife S Plus. Luckily, folks at PhoneRadar have managed to snag a live unit of the handset and they were generous enough to share its specs online

The Elife S Plus sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED 720 x 1280 display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It has MediaTek's MT6753 SoC on board carrying an eight-core processor plus 3GB of RAM. Native storage is listed at 16 GB, which can be expanded via micro-SD card slot. It wasn't specified as to what extent hard disk space can be expanded to.

There's a 13-megapixel back camera that supports LED-flash while selfies and video chats are taken care of by a five-megapixel front-facing unit. Dry cell capacity is quoted at 3,150 mAh while a USB Type-C connector can be found on the device's bottom edge.

Some of the cool perks of having USB Type-C connector on mobile devices is that the component is reversible and hard-wearing, Phone Arena reported.

The new generation port wipes out the inconvenience of plugging USB drives and cables the wrong way. A Type-C plug can be wedged in either direction into a Type-C connector. The reversibility even applies to USB 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1.

On the durability side of things, USB Type-C is fashioned to withstand over 10,000 insertion/extraction cycles. The new port also occupies lesser space on a circuit board, meaning hardware developers have space to add extra components, features or memory inside a mobile device.

The Elife S Plus will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop coated with Gionee's very own Amigo OS. Other reported features of the handset include LTE connectivity and support for dual-SIM capability. It will retail in India for INR 16,999 or approximately $260.

A release date for the Elife S Plus has yet to be confirmed however Gionee hinted last month that it will be launching a smartphone in India before the Diwali festival, which starts on Nov. 10.

"By March, 2016 we expect to assemble all phones that will be sold in India at two outsourced locations in the country. So, we will be selling all 'Made in India' phones in India. We will have first such phone before Diwali," said Gionee India CEO Arvind R. Vohra through India Times.
