The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS 12.1 update is now available for the Yu Yureka and Yureka Plus smartphones.

The much-awaited roll out was announced by Micromax Informatics founder and CEO Rahul Sharma.

"We understand it took longer than usual but we wanted to put up something concrete and ensure its worth your wait," he said on the company's Yu Play God online forum. "Apologies for a longer wait time."

Sharma also posted the following tweet:

Yu Yureka and Yureka Plus owners have to be patient though since the update, carrying a software version of YOG4PAS3JM, will be rolled out in phases over the next two weeks. Owners will just be notified when their handset is ready to be updated.

The update is expected to bring a slew of visual and performance enhancements while introducing improved thermal control to the Yu Yureka smartphones. For the techies among you, here are some of the patch notes:

  •  Redesigned Launcher: App Drawer and Folders have been redesigned for one-handed use.
  •  Smarter Screen: LiveDisplay intelligently adjusts your screen based on environmental conditions.
  •  Calendar Together with Email: Enjoy the latest Boxer powered experience where you can seamlessly share your availability and schedule appointments.
  •  Fresh AudioFX: The user interface has been updated for consistency across all devices.
  •  More Playback support: Substantially increased support of codecs for video and audio playback.

It was also revealed that the Yu Yuphoria will soon get the Cyanogen OS 12.1 update, following this current roll out.

In other Cyanogen news, a screenshot of CyanogenMod 13, sourced by a Cyanogen employee +RomanBirg, showed that the Android ROM will include support for T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling. Roman Birg said the capability was made possible by fusing AOSP code (Android Open Source Project) with what he calls "clever trickery" by the Cyanogen developers.

T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling lets subscribers make or receive phone calls over a Wi-Fi network during times when they are stuck in areas with poor cellular connection. The feature also applies to text messages.

CyanogenMod 13 is loosely based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A launch date for the ROM has yet to be reported, but its alpha and beta versions could be made available within months.

In an October 2015 bulletin post on the official CyanogenMod blog site, "ciwrl" stated that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow source has just been released and the company is currently "syncing and will begin evaluating it."

Another blog post from the same staff indicated that CyanogenMod is expanding its support to Huawei's Honor 4, Honor 4x, Ascend Mate 2 and Snapto. Motorola devices getting support for the Android-based ROM are the Moto E and Moto G.
