Reddit on Wednesday will premiere a series of documentary shorts, entitled "Cyborg Nation."

CNet reports the series examines how humans and machines work together in today's world. With help from Conde Nast Entertainment on "Cyborg Nation," the Reddit series will also be shown on Yahoo, AOL and MSN's channels.

Site co-founder and chairman Alexis Ohanian first conceived of the idea of creating original video content for Reddit. He reached out to the science and tech sections on Reddit to come up with ideas for the series.

"The hundreds of thousands of communities of Reddit generate more original ideas in one day than the world's best newsroom could produce in a lifetime," Ohanian said in reference to crowd-sourcing ideas for the new series.

Over the last six months, a small team at Reddit has been preparing the site to evolve in order to show original videos. The company hopes that the videos will show how knowledgeable its users are and help the platform gain more mainstream approval.

Reddit is an extremely popular website. Over 200 million people help create the content for the site, which is organized into communities known as subreddits. A large variety of subjects are discussed in these communities, from TV shows to politics to controversial issues of the day.

The site has experienced some issues lately with crackdowns on forum behavior and some staff changes.

According to Michael Pope, Reddit's creative projects manager, part of the goal with the new videos is to promote collaboration between Reddit users.

"We're seeing the value in our community and propping it up more," he said.

The other goal for showing videos on Reddit is to improve the community's visibility in a wider audience.

Other popular Internet sites like Yahoo and Amazon have tried original programming of their own, but Reddit hopes to be more successful by working with experienced professionals from Conde Nast from the beginning.
