Carrie Brownstein and Amy Poehler officiated an impromptu wedding in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old "Portlandia" star was promoting her new memoir "Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl" at Pasadena, California's Central Presbyterian Church alongside the former "Parks & Recreation" star, when the event turned into a spontaneous wedding between two Sleater-Kinney fans, according to Rolling Stone.

Brownstein, who is a licensed wedding officiant, invited the two female fans, Kendall and Genevieve, on stage to perform the ceremony. Poehler, who was present to co-host the book event discussion, offered up flowers to the newlyweds and also performed her version of "Greensleeves" on a church organ.

"All of us here are rooting for you," Brownstein said to the couple. "In the way that we always root for ourselves, in the way that we root for love to always win out over despair, for hope to win out over fear, for joy to win out over sorrow, we root for you in those ways. ... We root for the two of you to make each other feel the biggest, strongest, most special you ever felt."

The book discussion, which took place before the ceremony, saw Poehler introducing Brownstein to the stage and confessing her longtime love for Sleater-Kinney. During the discussion, Brownstein and Poehler touched upon fame and what it's like being a woman working in Hollywood.

Brownstein also explained the title of the book, saying it came from the song "Modern Girl" from "The Woods," one of Sleater-Kinney's albums. The song includes the lyrics "hunger makes me a modern girl."

"There's a lot of hunger in this book in terms of want, need and desire," Brownstein said.

Brownstein's book tour next travels to Portland with special guest Tig Notaro. The tour will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 17 in Toronto.
