Speculation on Samsung's next-generation clamshell smartphone began making rounds just last month after the device got discovered on GFXBench. The datasheet merely called the device the SM-W2016, but many tech pundits were convinced it was the Samsung Galaxy Golden 3.

For the record, the device is still an unannounced commodity. The Korean tech giant has not even officially named it yet. But alas, flip phone fans can find comfort in the fact that SM-W2016 recently got its certification from TENAA, China's equivalent of the FCC.

TENAA did not release an image of the rumored Galaxy Golden 3, but according to the regulator's listing via Mobipicker, the flip phone is equipped with an eight-core CPU clocked at 2.1GHz plus 3GB of RAM and 64GB of non-expandable native storage.

There's a discrepancy regarding the device's display as TENAA listed the device as having two 3.9-inch HD screens, one internally and one externally. GFXBench, on the other hand, had the measurements pegged at 4.6-inches.

Either way, the flip phone is fitted with a 16-megapixel rear camera capable of LED-flash, face detection, autofocus and touch focus. Its five-megapixel front-facing unit takes quality selfies as well as holds Full-HD video calls. Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed.

The rumored Galaxy Golden 3 is 120.4 millimeters long, 61 millimeters wide, 15.1 millimeters thick and weighs 204 grams. A flip phone is usually much thicker than the average slab-type handset, which is why the Galaxy Golden 3's bulk doesn't really come much of a surpirse. By comparison, the original Galaxy Gold was 15.8 millimeters thick and weighed 179 grams when it launched two years ago.

While Samsung has yet to formally announce the upcoming flip phone, the first-generation Galaxy Golden had a build number of SM-W2014 while the Galaxy Golden 2 carried the alias SM-W2015.

The former launched in South Korea and China as a 3.75-inch dual-screen Snapdragon 800-based flip phone. The latter carried over much of its predecessor's design but with 3.9-inch HD Super AMOLED screens and the Snapdragon 801 SoC clocked at 2.5GHz under the hood, per SamMobile.

Now that the Galaxy Golden 3 has been certified by TENAA, it's only a matter of time before Samsung starts sending press invites for the handset's unveiling.

In other Samsung news, the company is currently offering $350 worth of accessories plus $50 in cash to those who would purchase any one of its four new smartphones. They are the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5. The promo is valid until Nov. 22.

The Verge also reported that Samsung will be rolling out $100 worth of Google Play credits to those who trade in an iPhone for a new Galaxy smartphone.
