Google's line of Nexus devices is known for delivering no less than the purest Android experience. Aside from running on the latest Android OS straight out the box, Nexus devices are free from third party apps from mobile manufacturers and carriers.

Despite being the crowning jewels of the Android race, Nexus devices aren't immune to internal as well as external issues.

This year's Nexus versions, the LG-manufactured Nexus 5X and the Huawei-made Nexus 6P, are just two months old yet owners have already been complaining about the pair. While the former's issues have remained software-related, owners of the latter have been reporting a problem not so easily fixed by firmware updates.

Nexus 6P owners on Reddit reported that that the glass panel protecting the phone's cameras are shattering spontaneously.

One owner claimed that he left the 5.7-inch phablet facing upward on a table followed by a sudden cracking sound. He then picked up the device only to be greeted with a pile of glass shavings on the table, per 9to5Google.

"This could be caused by the method they use to temper the glass," said Reddit user RedHeadedMenace. "The method used to temper Gorilla glass involves giving the glass ion baths to strengthen it. The strength comes at a cost though — due to the strong attraction of the glass particles to one another and compression of the whole, the glass develops lines of internal torque and stress, leading to explosive results if the glass is impacted or pressed from the wrong angle."

This isn't the first major setback for the Nexus 6P as videos showing the phablet getting easily bent have already made rounds online.

A tech reviewer on YouTube claimed the Nexus 6P is prone to bending. A video by Jerry Rig showed the Nexus 6P subjected to a range of durability tests. The reviewer was heavily criticized for his methods. Many viewers claimed that since Rig had already broken the handset's glass, its overall strength was long compromised.

To prove the naysayers wrong, Rig posted another video, embedded below, showing him unboxing a new Nexus 6P with no prior damage to the display or anywhere else on the handset. Unfortunately, Rig was able to casually snap the device in half. He concluded that the Huawei-manufactured Nexus is indeed brittle.

The Nexus 6P's current woes have undoubtedly placed Huawei in the hot seat. Expect the China mobile maker to release a statement regarding the matter shortly.
