Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here.

The grand prize is currently at $50 million, with a cash value of $30.5 million.

Last Saturday’s winning numbers were 7, 16, 25, 50, 53, and 15. There were regular 475,767 winners, and $4,193,371 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 293 million. The odds of simply doubling your money on a $2 ticket are 1 in 38.

As NJ.com reports, a Powerball player in New Jersey who purchased a ticket for Saturday's drawing just won $1 million.

Although people generally know they are taking a chance when they play the lottery, Powerball players should be wary of reckless behavior with any newfound wealth.

A Forbes article draws attention to several things a lottery winner should do upon winning. The list includes visiting a tax professional before cashing in the winning ticket, making an effort to pay off all debts as soon as possible, finding a good charity to fund, and trying to stay as anonymous as possible.

The hardest bit of advice on the list might be to avoid sudden lifestyle changes.

Forbes writer Deborah Jacobs says that, for the first six months after winning the jackpot, a lottery player should try not to do anything too drastic.

The money expert lists quitting work or buying a new home in Europe as actions to avoid. She does, however, make room for human nature and says that a winner should set aside a fixed amount of money for splurges.
