The latest version of the Viber app for Android can now be downloaded by interested takers. The firmware has build number 5.6.0.2413 and packs a punch at only 36.48 MB.

One of the nifty features of the new Viber app is that it can run on two devices simultaneously. When installing the app on the second device, users are asked to key in the code that will have appeared on the first device. What this does is synch both installed apps to one Viber account.

NeuroGadget pointed out that those who want to change their chat backgrounds can now do so from a wider selection. Additionally, the new Viber app lets users set any photo from their gallery as the default chat background.

Talking to multiple people is easier this time around. Users don't have to switch between chat rooms anymore since they can now enter a chat room from a previous conversation. By swiping to the right side of the screen, users will be able to see all active chat rooms. What they'll only need to do is to tap the name of a friend or group that they'd like to talk to.

Furthermore, users can send voice messages via a new push-to-talk feature. By simply pressing the microphone button found at the right side of the conversation, users can send and receive voice messages in real time.

Another noteworthy addition to Viber is a heart icon located next to the group chat. It basically acts as a "like" button for when users want to acknowledge a message or image in a group chat. The new Viber app also supports public chats for Android tablets, not just for smartphones.

Last but definitely not the least; developers have increased the number of characters that can be typed on a single message in group chat. Messages can now be 7,000 characters long.

According to a separate report from NeuroGadget, the new Viber app can now be installed on Android devices, but it still hasn't made its way to the Google Play Store.

To install it, interested takers need to turn on the "Unknown Sources" option from the "Settings" menu. This can be found by navigating through "Applications or Settings" then selecting "Security." Enabling the option is necessary to install the latest Viber APK file, which can be downloaded from trusted developer sites.

Once the download is finished, clicking the APK file from its file location will automatically prompt the installation process.
