100 bodyguards for One Direction would mean 20 bouncers each for Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. Are the 1D boys afraid of their fans?

The Independent reports that the 20 men-strong security team for each of the boys will be assembled for the band's US shows. Quoting an insider for British newspaper The Daily Star, The Independent reports that the unbelievable number of security team might be due to Liam and Niall.

"It's mainly Niall and Liam who are starting to get really obsessive about security. Liam's fears grew after two fans stole his pants in Australia last year," the insider revealed to The Daily Star.

According to The Independent, Liam was more than shocked when fans allegedly barged in his room while he was asleep October of last year. Nialler, on the other hand, is reportedly "keen for extra knee support" but also has other issues calling for added security.

"Niall is getting more and more sensitive because of his panic attacks," the same insider said. "It's an insane amount of security for one band, but considering the way crowds form around them, it's necessary," the insider added.

One Direction is set to kick off their Where We Are tour in Bogota, Colombia at Estadio El Campin on April 25. The first stop of the tour is already sold out, according to the Where We Are tour website. The boys will be touring five more countries in Latin America before heading to Ireland on May 23 at Croke Park, Dublin.

The 1D boys will not be stepping on stage to perform for US fans until August 4, at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. With The Daily Star's insider noting that the 100 bodyguards are for the band's US shows, will Directioners still have a chance to get close with the boys before the North America tour dates?
